World War 3 is the 16th The Simpsons short and originally aired on The Tracey Ullman Show on November 22, 1987. Edwin Starr's 1970 hit "War" is playing in the background during this short.
Homer wakes up everyone in the house at 3:00 in the morning by over reacting to a nuclear war siren. The Simpsons make it to the fallout shelter in 18 seconds but Dad says "if this was really a nuclear war drill we would all be dead meat by now" to his freezing family. Homer then wakes up the family again and they are still unsuccessful in their timing. The family is now mad at Dad. Dad wakes the family up again, but this time they don't want to come. Dad says if they're fast enough he will let them sleep. They all go to the fallout shelter and Dad tells him that they were close to beating the clock. Bart then wakes Dad up for a nuclear war drill and he, Mom, Lisa, and Maggie trap Dad in the basement and decide to let him out in the morning.
