Cultural References

  • The title of this episode is a reference to the movie To Sir, with Love. This movie title was already parodied twice in the series, in To Surveil With Love and in To Cur, with Love.
  • Homer manages to escape the airport disguised as Bibendum, the Michelin tire company mascot.
  • In Paris, Lisa is dressed as Madeline, a character from a French book and TV series of the same name.
  • Homer, when talking to a policeman, states that "our family is falling apart like your European Union". This is clearly a reference to the British EU Membership Referendum, in which the UK would vote to leave the European Union.
  • The flying balloon house seen is a reference to the Pixar film Up.


  • The characters Cesar and Ugolin previously appeared in the season 1 episode The Crepes of Wrath. Although the pair have appeared in other episodes, this is the first since The Crepes of Wrath in which they don't have a minor appearance.
    • César and Ugolin are the names of two of the main characters from Marcel Pagnol's novel collection "L'Eau des collines" which consists of "Jean de Florette" and "Manon des Sources".


  • On the plane, Lisa's headphones disappear.
  • There is no "E33" gate on the Charles de Gaulle Airport, the airport used as inspiration to the one in this episode.
  • The plane seating plan is not used on any plane.
  • When the Simpson family arrives at the Charles de Gaulle Airport they are in the departure lounge.
  • It would be impossible to get a live snake through security.
