Tibet is a large region in Asia. Officially, is part of (and is owned by) China. Many people, including Lisa, want to free Tibet. There is a world campaign called the 'Free Tibet' campaign.
History[]
When Lisa wins the spelling bee, she shouts “Free Tibet!” The Dalai Lama, the Buddhist leader of Tibet, makes an appearance, in which Mr. Burns forces Homer (disguised as Pie Man) to throw a pie in the Dalai Lama's face.
In 'Goo Goo Gai Pan', when the Simpsons visit China, Madam Wu asks Lisa if she is happy to have an adopted sister. Lisa replies, “Well, I dunno.....I'm considered pretty...smart.” Wu replies, “Well, Tibet was considered pretty independent, but now we know the answer to that.” Wu laughs, but Lisa gets angry.
