Censorship[]

The version of this episode shown on UK's Sky Showcase and Channel 4 (with Sky Showcase reinstating the scenes later) cuts two scenes from the "Cut-Out Classics" deleted scenes reel:

  • The scene on season four's "Krusty Gets Kanceled" that was originally supposed to show Krusty trying to sell a picture book of him in a variety of sexually explicit positions and situations, only to be arrested by special agents for selling pornography to minors. The edited version goes from the ventriloquist dummy scene (which was an actual scene in that episode) to the deleted scene where network executives tell Krusty that his show has been canceled and will be replaced with a hemorrhoid informercial, with Krusty offering to play either Hemorrhoid Sufferer #1 or one of the "After" guys.
  • The alternate scene on season five's "Burns' Heir", where, after Smithers shoots the Robotic Richard Simmons to keep him from dancing and the robot starts going haywire, Smithers yells, "His ass is gonna blow!" as he, Mr. Burns, and Bart run back in the mansion and the robot explodes, was cut to remove Smither's line, "His ass is gonna blow!". The scenes of Smithers shooting the robot, the robot's face re-forming after being shot, and the robot exploding weren't cut.
    • It should be noted that the deleted scene from "Homer and Apu" where Apu shows The Simpsons a Bollywood movie, Bart complains that it sucks, and Homer saying it's funny because the Indian actors' clothes are different from his wasn't cut on either UK channel, despite that both UK channels have a history of editing out content that may be offensive to people from India.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first time Matt Groening's last name was ever pronounced on the show (pronounced "Gray-ning")
  • This is the first Simpsons clip show episode that doesn't have the family sitting around and remembering past events. Instead, the episode is set up like a TV show retrospective. The only other clip show episode to not have the family sitting around and remembering past events is the final clip show episode, "Gump Roast" (from season 13), which was set up like a comedy roast with the clips being used to show Homer's personality quirks and past events showing why humanity should be saved ("All Singing, All Dancing" is a gray area, as, while it does have the family sitting around and remembering past events, the events are shown through videotapes and most of the reminiscing is interrupted by Snake Jailbird holding the family hostage).
  • Originally, the photo for Sam Simon was supposed to be a slide that read, "NO PHOTO AVAILABLE". Simon disliked this, so he drew himself as a caricature of Howard Hughes in his later years and submitted it to be put in the episode.
  • To date, this is the only episode to be fully animated and digitally colored in America, with no Korean outsourcing involved. This is because there was very little new footage that needed animating, and what little was required was just the outside shot of the Springfield Civic Auditorium (with the sign gag that the next day's event is an "Alternate Lifestyle Prom"), and all the framing scenes involving Troy sitting, standing, and talking to the audience (and the act one break scene where he walks off stage, sighs in defeat, and smokes a cigarette).

Cultural References[]

  • Troy McClure's intro mentions one of his previous specials being "Five Fabulous Weeks of The Chevy Chase Show". The Chevy Chase Show was an actual late-night talk show on FOX in 1993 that was such a critical and ratings failure that it was canceled within two months' time.

Goofs[]

  • In the deleted scene from "Treehouse of Horror IV", Marge's neck is improperly layered over her necklace for a frame so that her necklace appears not to be completely drawn.

The clip of "Grampa vs. Sexual Inadequacy" during the end credits depicts an alternate version of the "Don't turn on the light!" scene where Homer and Marge aren't underneath the bed covers:
