The Hate Box is a nightclub located in Downtown Springfield. It is an underground techno and industrial rave club, frequented predominantly by Goths, punks, anarchists, and other such social outcasts.
On a very late night out, Ruth Powers takes Marge dancing to The Hate Box.
While there, Marge meet Otto, who urges her to try a "Smart Drink" - a non-alcoholic spiked drink containing a mixture of fruit juices and various supplements, a staple of the original raves of the early 1990's. Drinking from the cup himself gives Otto a moment of clarity, as he declares, "I've wasted my life."
Marge also spots Mayor Quimby dancing topless with his torso streaked with body paint and holding glow sticks.
