Cultural references[]

  • The title and plot of the episode reference the 2006 film The Departed.
  • The plot is inspired by the story of the movie Donnie Brasco. In the movie, an FBI agent infiltrates the mafia under the secret code name of "Donnie", just like Donny in this episode.
  • While driving in the loaner car, Homer sings Owner of a Lonely Heart by Yes, but with different lyrics.
  • Bart also references the Diet Coke and Mentos eruption, using a pack of Green Apple Mentos, a normal can of Coke, and a styrofoam cup.
  • The loaner car Homer drives is a first generation Cadillac CTS. Although Lisa mentions the car is "assembled in Mexico," all first generation, US market Cadillac CTS models are built in GM's Lansing, Michigan assembly plant. In regards to the CTS being built in Michigan, Car and Driver made this comment about the CTS-V during a three-car comparison test in Germany: "You can take the Cadillac out of Michigan, but you can't take the Michigan out of the Cadillac." The first generation CTS was also built in Russia (European market cars), China (Chinese market cars), and Taiwan (other Asian markets), but none were built in Mexico.

Trivia[]

  • This is the second episode in a row where a character (Bart) orders another character to do something (Skinner to go knitting/Sid to bang his head against a wall) and they obey, claiming they're only doing it because they want to.

Goofs[]

  • When Donny is in Principal Skinner's office after the assembly, it's 5:50. "The clock in the office may be broken."
  • After Principal Skinner locks Bart and Donny in the detention room, he chuckles to himself, but his mouth doesn't move. (Your mouth doesn't need to move to chuckle)
  • When Bart found out that that Groundskeeper Willie is on Principal Skinner's side as a rat, Bart's lips saying "Willie? You're on Skinner's side?" were out of sync.
