"The Complete Sixth Season" was released on August 16, 2005 in North America, September 28, 2005 in Australia and October 17, 2005 in the UK and Ireland. It contains all 25 episodes from season six. The recurring style of the booklet that came with each box set was discontinued, instead being incorporated into the theme of the box. The spine features Mr Burns and Chief Wiggum, for the first time being on both the outer and inner casings, as was to continue through to season ten. The Sixth Season's overall theme is "Who Shot Mr. Burns?", the first ever Simpsons cliffhanger, while the booklet theme is that of a police investigation file. The menus continue the format from The Complete Fifth Season. The 'window' in the outer box that shows the inner casing was carried on from the couch gag sets to the regular-shaped box sets for the sixth through tenth seasons. This is the first season of the show that does not use a picture of the family on television on the front cover.

Menu Animations

The menus for the Complete Sixth Season DVD are very similar to the menus from The Complete Fifth Season, but the menus for this season are based on "Who Shot Mr. Burns". On the main menu, each episode is represented by the main character for the episode, and are lining up against a police lineup chart. On each disc, there are several unique menu animations, as described below. There are also mugshot animations for each episode, and a couple with Mr. Burns in the scene selection menu:

Disc 1 Main Menu Animations

Characters: Bart in a wheelchair (Bart of Darkness), Lisa (Lisa's Rival), Marge (Another Simpsons Clip Show), Professor Frink (Itchy & Scratchy Land), Sideshow Bob (Sideshow Bob Roberts), Homer with an axe (Treehouse of Horror V), and Jessica Lovejoy (Bart's Girlfriend).

Image	Description
	Homer goes insane and swings his axe towards Sideshow Bob, who cuts off part of his hair in the process. Bob then fixes it.
	Bart spins around in his wheelchair while the others, who are shocked, look on.
	A Scratchy robot (from Itchy & Scratchy Land) walks over and scares away Marge, Bart and Lisa. Frink then scares the Scratchy robot away by summoning an Itchy robot, and Marge, Bart and Lisa go back to their places.
	Jessica pushes Homer, who bumps Sideshow Bob, and so on to the far left of the line, knocking Bart off of his wheelchair.
	Like the previous animation, Bart retaliates by doing the same as Jessica (pushing Lisa into Marge, etc.)
	Lisa sniffs her finger with her nose.
	Bart pulls out his telescope and hits Lisa with it. In revenge, Lisa hits him back with it.

Disc 2 Main Menu Animations

Characters: Lisa in hockey gear (Lisa on Ice), Homer (Homer Badman), Grampa (Grampa vs. Sexual Inadequacy), Marge (Fear of Flying), Number One (Homer the Great), Maggie (And Maggie Makes Three), and Bart (Bart's Comet).

	Grampa falls asleep and abruptly awakens, startled. He turns around, revealing the Gummy Venus De Milo stuck towards the bottom of his coat. Homer takes it and eats it, thus receiving an impromptu slap from Grampa afterwards.
	A toy plane flies past and goes through Marge's hair, making a big hole in it. Marge then fixes her hair after the plane leaves.
	Marge looks at the camera with a nervous expression.
	Number One puts his hand on his chest.
	Homer sighs.
	Number One grabs a paddle and paddles Homer's butt.
	A comet flies by above everyone's head, and Bart grabs his camera and takes a photo of it.

Disc 3 Main Menu Animations

Characters: Krusty (Homie the Clown), Bart with a large boot (Bart vs. Australia), Homer (Homer vs. Patty and Selma), Barney (A Star is Burns), Future Lisa (is 23 years old and wearing her wedding outfit; Lisa's Wedding), Santa's Little Helper (Two Dozen and One Greyhounds), and Skinner (The PTA Disbands).

	Krusty lights up his cigarette, but accidentally catches his nose on fire as he panics. Eventually, he sprays his nose with water, thus making the fire burn out.
	Santa's Little Helper scratches himself.
	Homer looks side to side while nervously whimpers.
	Santa's Little Helper sniffs Skinner, and Skinner sniffs SLH back.
	Bart blows a raspberry at Future Lisa, who glares back at him. Santa's Little Helper grabs a flower from the bouquet, throws it up and swallows it whole.
	Future Lisa throws her bouquet behind her, and Santa's Little Helper catches it. Future Lisa grabs the bouquet out of SLH's mouth afterwards.
	Bart makes one of his funny faces at Homer, who gets angry and strangles Bart. Homer then notices the others watching, so he lets go of Bart.

Disc 4 Main Menu Animations

Characters: Bleeding Gums Murphy ('Round Springfield), Moe (The Springfield Connection), Bart (Lemon of Troy), and Smithers (Who Shot Mr. Burns? (Part One)).

Image	Description
	While the J.F.K. Homage-style version of the theme song plays, everyone points at each other.
	Bleeding Gums Murphy plays his sax, much to Moe's annoyance as he covers his ears.
	Bart grabs his skateboard and skates to the left of the screen. Less than a second later, he reappears from the right.
	A gust of wind blows up Moe's apron, ala Marilyn Monroe.

Disc 1 Mugshots/Episode Menu Animations

Images	Description
	While in his wheelchair, he gets his telescope out and looks into the camera with it while saying, "Hmm..."
	Allison Taylor runs into the shot and pushes Lisa aside.
	Due to the flash of her first mugshot, Marge has an experience of temporary flash blindness, as she tries to balance herself, but falls over. The second shot shows her hair.
	Professor Frink cleans the camera lens and smiles goofily while saying, "Mhoyvin!"
	Sideshow Bob glares evilly and shows what it looks like a flick-knife, but it turns out to be a flick-comb instead, so Bob combs one of his hairs with it, puts it away, and gives a peace sign while grinning.
	The insane Homer notices the flash that was taken for his first mugshot, so he gets his axe ready and axes the camera, making the lens break. Also, the police lineup chart behind him is torn, with "666" written in red next to "6 ft", which is crossed off. Wind howls in the background as well.
	Jessica looks side to side, and makes a face with her hands above her ears and her tongue sticking out. However, when the second mugshot is taken, Jessica is now praying, with an angel holo above her.

	Lisa lifts up the cage shield of her hockey helmet, and reveals her teeth, with two of them missing.
	Homer sticks out his tongue, which reveals that he has the Gummi Venus De Milo on it.
	Grampa is sleeping. Chief Wiggum (offscreen) turns Grampa's head to face the camera, but slouches over to the side a bit, as Grampa is still sleeping.
	After the first mugshot, Marge notices a smudge on the camera lens, so she gets her cleaning spray and sprays the lens. She then gets her cleaning cloth and wipes the lens clean, removing the smudge in the process.
	After the first mugshot, Chief Wiggum (offscreen) taunts Number One by saying, "Nya-nyaah!". Annoyed, Number One says, "Silence!" while putting his hand up to the camera.
	Maggie takes her pacifier out of her mouth and goofily giggles while smiling (showing her gums with no teeth).
	Bart grabs his camera (which is hanging around his neck), aims for the camera, and takes a picture.

Disc 3 Mugshots/Episode Menu Animations

Images	Description
	Krusty does his usual "Hey hey!" and laughs at the camera, but a pie gets thrown in his face.
	Bart kicks the large boot off of his foot, but doesn't see it come back down. He then shrugs, but just when the second mugshot is about to be taken, the boot hits him in the head while shouting, "D'oh!"
	Homer's I.O.U. note is dangled in front of the screen, which Homer notices. Anxious, he tries to grab it as it is pulled away from him.
	Barney does his signature belch.
	Confetti is thrown all over Future Lisa, and she tries to shield herself from it.
	Santa's Little Helper notices the camera, stands up while wagging his tail, and licks the lens.
	Skinner tries to look good for his second mugshot; he puffs his hair a little, straightens his tie and makes a smile. However, the second mugshot reveals that he is frowning, his right eye is closed and his left eye is halfway open.

Easter Eggs

• On all episode menus, you can highlight the production code after you watched at least one second of the episode. Usually, it will just continue, but on "Treehouse of Horror V", you will see an eye peek through the words that say "Season Six Disc One". Also, on "Who Shot Mr. Burns? (Part One)", several bullet holes will appear through the menu.
• A hidden sketch of the Simpsons' house made out of squirrels (a deleted scene from the "Time and Punishment" segment of "Treehouse of Horror V") can be accessed by highlighting the 'Play All Deleted Scenes With Commentary' option from the Extras menu of Disc 4, pressing Right, and selecting the pencil icon.
• If you watch the episode "Fear of Flying" with the audio commentary, after the episode is finished, there is a short tribute to guest star Anne Bancroft, who died shortly after the commentaries were recorded. This tribute is by David Mirkin.

Box Controversy

The new design model for Season 6 has sparked controversy among Simpsons DVD collectors. Most do not have a problem with the box itself, the problem stems from the fact that a sense of uniformity in the DVD collection is now lost. However, there have also been complaints that the plastic is weak and tends to wear down quickly.

A flyer included in the set directs purchasers to a website which allows those disaffected with the "Homer's Head" design to receive (for $2.95 US or $4.95 CA shipping) a box for the season which will be uniform. The website (and flyer inside the DVD set) is vaguely and humorously insulting to consumers who are "afraid of change" and are "anal-retentive nerds who want their DVD boxes to line up on the shelf."

It was announced on August 25 2005 that the UK release on October 17 2005 would have two covers - the Homer head would be limited edition and only 50,000 would be released. The alternate cover art was speculated to also be the USA alternative cover art. Copies of the alternative box began arriving to the USA in late September 2005, and it was indeed the black 'Homer magnifying glass' box. However, there have still been complaints - the fact that it doesn't have a couch gag, that the 'Homer head' innards must be placed inside, thus it is different from past sets, the fact that the box falls apart easily and that, overall, it is not an "old-style just-like-before box" as the flyer quoted. Recent copies of the Season 6 box set are issued using the regular box configuration, though with better build quality and normal box innards that match those of other seasons. However the old-showing box was re-released on June 26th, 2007.
