When Moe is out sick, Homer and his friends run the tavern in his place. They enjoy it so much that they decide to open their own exclusive tavern.
Homer arrives at Moe's Tavern feeling especially unappreciated when Moe suddenly collapses on the bar. Moe explains that his appendix is infected and he has to visit a doctor to have it removed (even though he can only afford a veterinarian on his insurance), which leaves Homer, Lenny, Carl, and Barney to run the tavern. Despite a few rocky starts, the four friends prove to be effective bartenders.
Moe later comes back to resume his job, but Homer and his friends are having so much fun at it that they don't want to give it up. After a bit of planning and some deals with Fat Tony, they open up "The Beer Boys". It quickly becomes the hottest tavern in Springfield... so hot that Moe's Tavern is losing all its customers.
With a few threats, Moe gets Lenny, Carl, and Barney to ditch The Beer Boys and come back to his tavern. Homer, refuses to give up his business now that everybody is appreciating him. Once Moe leaves, though, he cannot help but think about the fond memories he spent with Moe and ultimately decides to give up his bartending career. Marge later thanks Moe for setting Homer straight, and Moe promises her that he'll send Homer home at least occasionally.
