Star Wars
is a science fiction franchise originally developed from the 1977 film Star Wars written and directed by George Lucas. It has been referenced numerous times on the show.

  • Mark Hamill (who plays Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars series) guest-stars as himself in the episode. He speaks at the Bi-Mon-Sci-Fi-Con and later stars as Nathan Detroit in a local production of the musical Guys and Dolls. To his dismay, Hamill is forced to play the part as Luke Skywalker and sing a song called "Luke, Be a Jedi", a parody of "Luck be a Lady Tonight".
  • During Mark Hamill's presentation on long-distance savings, Database tells him "Daaah, talk about Star Wars!"

Duffman holding his boss 12 263 "Hungry, Hungry Homer" Duffman's hesitation and looking back and forth between Homer and Howard K. Duff VIII, that ends with lifting his boss over his head and throwing him over the fence, reminds the scene from Return of the Jedi where Darth Vader looks back and forth between his son Luke and his master, Emperor Palpatine, that ends with lifting Emperor over his head and throwing him into the Death Star II's chasm.

Dr. Hibbert as Darth Vader 13 286 "Gump Roast" Julius Hibbert is arrested for wearing a Darth Vader costume, thus violating a local ordinance against impersonating movie characters. Also, the Imperial March plays when Mr. Burns is introduced on stage during the roast of Homer Simpson.

Later in hospital the music reprises as the two throw Peanuts and Shrimp at each other.Their fall maybe reference to Darth Maul's death, if Obi-Wan Kenobi had killed Maul and fell that would look a bit same as in the episode.

And even that's been ruined with CGI editions. Bravo George."

The name and cover of the VHS and DVD is a reference to the Star Wars film The Empire Strikes Back. There is Bart as Luke Skywalker fighting Homer as Darth Vader on the cover. Coincidentally, the same film was also notorious for the reveal that Darth Vader was Luke Skywalker's father.
