Business Dealings[]
- The Springfield mafia conducts its business and socializes in the Legitimate Businessman's Social Club.
- Gambling is one of the mafia's ventures.
- The mafia has strong control over illegal fireworks sales (In "Trilogy of Error") and rats milk production. (In "Mayored to the Mob")
- The mafia helped out Marge Simpson's pretzel business by attacking her competitors in "The Twisted World of Marge Simpson."
- The mafia is also responsible for tobacco, drug, and alcohol trafficking. When Springfield reenacts Prohibition, they paid off the police officers to smuggle the booze into the town. (In "Homer vs. the Eighteenth Amendment")
- The mafia offers protection to Krusty Burger from competitor restaurants such as McDonalds and Burger King. (In "The Mook, the Chef, the Wife and her Homer")
- The mafia also built a wheelchair navigation ramp system for Springfield Elementary School which ended up collapsing, due to having been made out of breadsticks, before it could see official use (It was originally developed to help Bart get around the school when he was confined to a wheelchair, but that fell through after he made an unexpectedly quick recovery), which also forced Springfield Elementary to close permanently. (In "Grift of the Magi")
- They were gluing cotton balls on ferrets and selling them to pet shops, as toy poodles, until they were arrested by SpringShield due to one of their products being attached to a wire. (In "Poppa's Got a Brand-New Badge")
- The mafia distributed milk for the various schools under the name Squeaky Farms Brand Genuine Animal Milk, which as the name implied used rats' milk as the ingredient instead of cows or even at a minimum dog (Which was what Mayor Quimby had been promised), as Homer, at the time acting as one of Quimby's bodyguards, discovered this, and pressured Quimby to shut it down. (Again, in "Mayored to the Mob")
- Although technically not a real business dealing, the mafia, when disposing of a cadaver, placed the said cadaver in a Goodwill dumpster that was otherwise reserved for discarded Christmas toys, only to then cover their actions to Chief Wiggum by claiming that they were getting rid of a "Beanie baby." (In "Mom and Pop Art") The second time that happened was in "The Canine Mutiny" when Bart and Laddie the Border Collie he ordered saw them dump a cadaver into a ditch near the woods, resulting Legs (Incorrectly in Louie's voice) to tell Bart that "[They] ain't see nothin' if [he] ain't see nothin'." The same thing happened the third time at Lake Springfield, only this time, Wiggum, with Lou and Eddie's help, talked them out of dumping the cadaver, which the police didn't know was a cadaver, into the lake, resulting Fat Tony to claim that he and his men will instead get rid of some "Yard trimmings" in a trash compactor, and after the mafia left with the cadaver, Lou points out his suspicions to Wiggum that the mafia actually had a cadaver, but Wiggum brushed that suspicion aside by telling Lou to "Listen better" due to Wiggum thinking it's a cadaver at first until he heard Fat Tony say "Yard trimmings." (In "The Simpsons Movie")
Mafia Punishments[]
The mafia often punishes people for things that are either an insult to them or if they don't pay back their debts. For instance, when Homer ended up borrowing money from Fat Tony and losing it in a football game, Fat Tony "Hammered down" a payment plan by having Louie hammer Homer's hand. (Using two hammers, one from Louie and the other from Legs, if he mentioned Professor Pigskin) They also collectively hammered both Homer's hands when the latter asked them if they were the gay mafia. In both "Mom and Pop Art" and "The Simpsons Movie," as mentioned above, the mafia is seen with a person they killed. They have also repeatedly killed Frankie the Squealer, although Frankie, like Hans Moleman, keeps returning as alive instead of dead.
Springfield Mafia Families[]
- The Calabresi crime family (Poisoned)
- The Springfield mafia crime syndicate
- Castellaneta crime family (Defunct)
Although not actually stationed in Springfield, it was revealed in "Insane Clown Poppy" that the Cuomo, Travolta, Lasorda, and Boyardee Mafia families had ties to the Springfield mafia crime syndicate, and had once participated in a mafia summit, which ended up ruined due to Krusty the Clown and Homer unintentionally instigating a shootout from dropping various violin containers containing tommy guns while trying to retrieve the former's daughter's violin. It is also implied once in "Homie the Clown" that the Springfield Mafia had branches worldwide, or at least in Budapest and Rome.
Trivia[]
- It originally parodied the Corleone crime family from The Godfather series, and later Goodfellas and The Sopranos.
- Fat Tony's mafia has been seen in jail more than once, but they usually escape easily.[1][2][3]
