The South Street Squidport, alternatively known as Springfield Squidport, is the name given to the renovated ambient pedestrian mall, located on the waterfront.
Historically, the area was home to a thriving squid-gutting industry, including a tentacle cannery. But after the industry collapsed, the area was left abandoned for decades by all but a few longshoremen and sex workers.
Following the extensive refurbishment, the Squidport was transformed into an upscale shopping promenade with authentic maritime theming. After the renovations were completed and retailers had moved in, the Squidport celebrated its grand opening with a black-tie gala.
