• The episode's plot seems to be based on that of the Star Trek episode "The City on the Edge of Forever", the writer of which, Harlan Ellison, was credited for the synopsis by Al Jean after the episode's announcement.
  • Ellison also voiced himself in Season 25's "Married to the Blob".
• Bender is caught in the basement drinking Homer's beer. The brand is Duff Basement, a stand-in parody for Coors Banquet. It's probably a special formulation of Duff designed to be stored in humid basements.
• Bart gives a brief overview on how Matt Groening came up with the concept for Bender.
• A billboard can be seen that reads The eBook Of Mormon, a reference to the musical The Book of Mormon.
• A Simpsons Comics book was released in 1996 with the name Simps-o-rama.
• A Simpsons/Futurama crossover, which was released before this special, has taken place in the comics, though the plot differs significantly.
• Bender has had a brief cameo in the episode "Future-Drama" which in itself is a reference to Futurama.
• Fry previously has also had a brief cameo in a couch gag to "HOMER".
• Fry and Leela made brief cameos at the end of "Beware My Cheating Bart".
• The 20th Century Fox Television logo was replaced with 30th Century Fox Television as seen at the end of every Futurama episode.
• Akabar and Binky from Life in Hell may be seen writing "crossovers are hell" on a building in New New York.
• This episode might be canon because Bender is seen in a Season 27 episode called "Cue Detective". In that episode, he is the Simpsons' money safe.
• This episode is mentioned many times in the 'When Worlds Collide' quest from The Simpsons: Tapped Out during conversations between Matt Groening and Homer.
• When Bender misses the bowling pins at Barney's Bowlarama, Bender uses Homer's catchphrase, "D'oh!".
• This marked the first time Futurama has been featured on Fox, 10 years after the original series cancellation in 2004.
• The FXXX satellite is a parody of FXX, but it could possibly be an adult channel, due to the fact that XXX usually means adult programming.
• Bender mentions "Kill all humans" in his sleep, which was a reference to the Futurama episode "I, Roommate".
• It appears Bender has a tongue, even though in his respective show, he was never shown to have one.
• Michelle Jenkins was originally going to appear in this episode, but she was cut out of the show for unknown reasons.

Goofs

• Panucci's Pizza is shown in Springfield, even though it was shown to have been located in New York. Seymour Asses is also seen, even though he died in New York in 2012.
• Kang and Kodos are both considered female in this episode, however it has been repeatedly stated that Kang is male and Kodos is female.
• Bart now mentions that his birthday is on February 23rd. However, his original birthdate was said to be April 1st.
  • He most likely changed it for legal reasons.
• There were seven creatures destroying the portal between the future and the present, but when the Simpsons and the Planet Express crew are sucked back into it, there's no creatures by the portal.
• The hole that Leela shot through Bender's head heals itself while Professor Farnsworth asks Leela to take Homer and find out why people would ever pay for freemium games.
  • Coincidentally, The Simpsons: Tapped Out was released 2 years before, and in 2017, Futurama got their own mobile game, yet it was terribly glitched.
