...Yeah.
―Rita's catchphrase

Rita Simpson (née LaFleur) is a retired singer. She was in a relationship with Abraham Simpson, whom she married when Abraham's son Homer was six years old.

Biography[]

Rita

A younger Rita

Rita used to be a singer at Spiro's, a Springfield restaurant that Abraham once worked at as a busboy. She caught his attention and after they were fired the two started dating when Homer was six years old, when Mona had just left Abraham. Eventually, Rita and Abraham married, but things went badly seconds after the marriage when Homer suffered a head injury after being dragged by the car after accidentally tying himself to it while tying cans on it. When he heard that the family would be going to Europe for one of Rita's tours, Abraham realized that Homer is defenseless and wouldn't survive in Europe, so he stayed behind with him while Rita went to Europe. At some point in her later years, she began living in Springfield again. She reunited with Abraham in the present-day Springfield Retirement Castle after Abraham briefly ran away.[1]

Behind the Laughter[]

Abraham's marriage to Rita has never directly been mentioned as dissolved, and Rita herself believes she is still married to him in the present day of season 24. As Homer's mother Mona survived until her death in season 19's "Mona Leaves-a", this implies Abraham was unwittingly a bigamist.

Trivia[]
