Please Homer, Don't Hammer 'Em
Treehouse of Horror XVII

Cultural references[]

  • The episode title is a parody of MC Hammer's album Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em.
  • The Zoominator is a parody of the Terminator.
  • On the Simpsons' mailbox, you can see the Simpsons logo and the TCF copyright info.
  • The music "Duel of the Fates" from Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace plays while Bart and Skinner are fighting across Springfield. It plays again later in the hospital scene when they throw peanuts and shrimp at each other.
  • Skinner screaming "Nooooooooo!" after Bart tells him he was El Barto parodies the scene in The Empire Strikes Back where Luke screams "NOOOOOOOOO!" after learning Darth Vader was his father.
  • Polybius is one of the arcade games in Captain Blip's Zapateria at Springfield Mall. It is shown with only one button and printed with the words "Property of U.S. Government". Polybius is a reference to a popular urban legend about an allegedly government-produced experimental arcade game released to the public in 1981, which caused its players to go insane, causing them to suffer from intense stress, horrific nightmares and even suicidal tendencies.
  • The game Triangle Wars parodies the arcade games Asteroids and Qix. Its title and logo lightly parody Star Wars, with the final "s" connected in the same was as those films' logo.
  • The book "Kansas City Royals: Forever Champions" is on sale at Rock Bottom Remainders - the Royals won the 1985 World Series but lost over 100 games in four out of five seasons from 2002 to 2006.
  • The book shop Rock Bottom Remainders shares the same name as the now-defunct rock band featuring several literary figures, including Stephen King and Dave Barry.
  • Homer and Marge's carpenter clothes (blue overalls with red/green shirts) reference those of the Mario Bros, Mario and Luigi. In their original appearances, Mario and Luigi were known as carpenters (later updated to plumbers).
  • The Thai Food Factory in Little Bangkok used to be a Petco.
  • Marge's mailbox is based on architect Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater, and Santa's Little Helper's new house is a replica of Westminster Abbey.
  • The Persian CD shown is a reference to anti-American marches in Iran, as Iran and the United States have no diplomatic ties.
  • The song that plays during the montage of Bart threatening Skinner into doing things is "Beat on the Brat" by Ramones.
  • One of the out-of-town roller coaster weirdos is wearing a "Dilbert's Flying Cubicle" shirt. The "Dilbert's Flying Cubicle" ride later appears in "I Don't Wanna Know Why the Caged Bird Sings".

Trivia[]

Goofs[]

  • In this episode Bart is said to only be allergic to shrimp. In Blood Feud Marge lists Bart's allergies as butterscotch, imitation butterscotch, and glow-in-the-dark monster make-up (even though Marge wanted to cook Bart butterscotch chicken on "A Milhouse Divided" as a reward for only getting three cavities at the dentist), and "Mommie Beerest" and "The Frying Game" clearly show Bart eating shrimp without any adverse reactions. It is possible for allergies to randomly appear and disappear. He could have gained a shrimp allergy and lost his other ones. Furthermore, as shown in "The Heartbroke Kid" he is allergic to cauliflower.
  • In this episode Milhouse claims to be allergic to tears and has an allergy reaction when he cries. However in future episodes (and some past episodes), he cries and nothing happens. The possible explanation above could apply to Milhouse as well. In fact, it is even more likely due to Milhouse's often bizarre health conditions.
  • After all of the workers leave on the roller coaster construction site, the camera points to Homer in the car. Behind him, the roller coaster looks completely repaired.
  • When Bart is dumping Buzz Cola cans into the tennis ball server, the logo on the sides, the white parts of the box and the holes on the top of the box are missing.
  • In the master bedroom, the floorboard broke along with the nightstand. However, there were never floorboards in the bedroom- it was green carpet.
    • It could be possible that the floorboard was there but in all the other episodes it was always covered with the carpet and thus that we didn't know anything about the floorboard being there.
  • When Marge fixes the second row of tracks, her hand is missing, then when Homer passes Marge, the Zoominator logo is mirrored.
    • It could be possible that Homer wrote the logo mirrored on the side because you guys know what is Homer capable of.
