Full Story

Lisa is proud as she is interviewed by the news about a duck pond but that story gets interrupted by Kent Brockman proclaiming that Mayor Quimby unfairly helped a beauty contestant win an event and is in danger of losing the mayor's spot even though he is unopposed. Quimby turns to a shadowy figure to help him out and it is Rev. Lovejoy.

At church, Quimby is presented to the congregation and they sneer at him, but Quimby decides to get re-elected with the promise of introducing Sunday blue laws, pleasing the church crowd. Homer cheers for blue but when Lisa tells him that it means Homer can't drink on that day, it sets a fire under Homer and he dcides to run for the mayorship. Moe and Bart help him out but Fat Tony gives Homer his full "endorsement". Fat Tony sets up an event at the duck pond for Homer's campaign rally but it turns into a major ecological disaster. Meanwhile, a church based rally is planned for Mayor Quimby and Lovejoy presents Homer as the embodiment of all 7 deadly sins.

Lisa finds out that Fat Tony owns the duck pond and used that venue as an excuse to get people to not support the duck pond, Homer tells Lisa it is politics and Lisa runs away crying. Homer then learns that Fat Tony was working for Quimby in a way that would have Homer definitely lose in the race. HOmer then goes back to Lisa and asks for her forgiveness and help and she helps him. On election night, Homer and Quimby for some reason TIE despite Homer not voting for himself and Bart somehow voting for him. He does present an offer to Quimby that if Homer drops out, Quimby would save the duck pond and repeal Sunday laws. Lovejoy and Fat Tony are angry that they were had but Quimby said he's been married for 20 years, things could be worse.
