• The name of this episode is a reference to the novel 1975 and later 1977 crime drama movie Looking for Mr. Goodbar (film).

• This is the second time that the Gracie Films logo has a visual variant. The first was "Last Tap Dance in Springfield".
• This is the second time that Homer gets sprayed by a skunk. The first was in "Marge on the Lam".
• The Tracey Ullman Show short, Good Night, was shown before the couch gag to celebrate 30 years of the Simpsons' televised debut, but it only has the scene where Marge sings "Rock-a-bye baby" to Maggie.
• The title screen gag has the words "30 YEARS AGO..." at the bottom, which is a reference to the Simpsons turning 30 years old on television eleven days prior to this episode's original airing.
