Cultural references

• The episode title is be a reference to the 1972 concert film Liza with a Z.
• This is the second time where Lisa gets into Show Business. The first was in All About Lisa.
• Spider Pig is featured with a musical named "Turn off the Pork" , while depicted wearing a Spider-Man-esque suit. It is a reference to the Broadway musical "Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark".
• Donut Hut is a parody of Pizza Hut.
• There is a parody of the 2015 movie Inside Out. You get to see the main 5 emotions from the movie replaced with the characters Homer knows such as: Hans Moleman as Sadness, Comic Book Guy as Disgust, Flanders as Joy, Milhouse as Fear and Groundskeeper Willie as Anger.
• The song in the beginning of the episode is a parody of the 1956 song "Tonight" by Ferrante & Teicher, famous for being in the 1961 musical film West Side Story.
• A tribute to the victims of the Paris attacks was placed on the marquee for the Broadway show called "Lafayette: The Musical" , an image of the Eiffel Tower standing in the middle of a peace sign -- a now-iconic symbol of unity created by French graphic designer Jean Jullien in the aftermath of the Nov. 13 attacks. This is also a reference to the "Hamilton", a Broadway musical and cultural phenomenon about the life of US Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton. It is implied that the marquee is meant to be a parody of Hamilton with the Marquis de Lafayette. The reference is confirmed on Twitter by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator, composer, lyrist, writer, and star of Hamilton.
• One of the Broadway shows is called "Candy Crush: The Musical", a reference to the popular facebook and mobile video-game Candy Crush Saga.
• During the poker game, when Laney refers to Homer as "fat folds five", it is a reference to American rock group Ben Folds Five.

Goofs

• When Ned's cousin is towing the car, Lisa is shown in the back seat, but the family was going to New York to rescue her.
• There were no rugs on the stage when the family was talking with Laney and Lisa, but in the same scene, a worker pulls a rug out from under Laney's foot.
