Goofs

  • Krusty's nose turns white during his song for the winner of the Little Miss Springfield pageant.
  • During Krusty's song for the winner of the Little Miss Springfield pageant, Lisa is the only other girl on stage. However as she's walking away, all of the other contestants suddenly appear on the stage again.
  • When Lisa is sworn in as Little Miss Springfield, Marge's dress turns from green in the long shot to pink in the close up.
  • Ralph's shirt is brown in this episode.

Trivia

  • The soldier who complains about Tony Randall cancelling has the same voice as Snake (Jailbird).
  • This episode has been used in England by the Anglican Church to give kids lessons in self-esteem, as well as pointing out Homer's sale of the Duff beer ticket, marking a sacrifice on his part as Lisa's self-worth was more value to him than his pleasure.
  • Lisa ripping off her dress to reveal a leotard underneath refers to a mishap Tina Turner had while performing with Mick Jagger during Live Aid in which she had a wardrobe malfunction which revealed a leotard.
  • Lisa sings "Proud Mary" (originally by Creedence Clearwater Revival, probably best known nowadays in the Tina Turner cover version) for the Little Miss Springfield pageant.
  • When Lisa is announced as Little Miss Springfield, Marge is standing beside Lisa with a somber look on her face and wearing a pink Chanel dress and a pillbox hat. This was in reference to Jacqueline Kennedy standing beside Lyndon Johnson on Air Force One during the emergency inauguration of 1963, immediately following the death of President Kennedy.
  • The rioting soldiers at Fort Springfield who are angered at seeing Little Miss Springfield instead of Miss Springfield as they were expecting, storm the stage, causing Lisa and Bob Hope to escape via helicopter. This is akin to the Playboy Playmate scene in Apocalypse Now.
  • The caricatures on the sign of the caricature booth at the carnival are of Farrah Fawcett, Fonzie from Happy Days and Darth Vader from the Star Wars saga.
  • Pahusacheta Nahasapeemapetilon appears as one of the contestants in the pageant. She appears to be Apu's brother Sanjay's daughter, as Apu himself would not have kids until Season 11's "Eight Misbehavin'."
  • When the Duff Blimp crashes into a tower and catches fire, Kent Brockman screams "Oh, the humanity!!" These were the exact same lines that Herbert Morrison, Host of the WLS Chicago Radio said when the Hindenburg Blimp exploded in 1937. The real referenced scene can be seen Here around 47 seconds.
