Continuity[]

Cultural references[]

  • The episode title is a pun on "going gaga" (a slang term for "going crazy") and is a reference to Lady Gaga's guest appearance.
  • A song Homer Face, which is sung by Homer during credits, is a parody of Lady Gaga's popular song Poker Face.
  • Lady Gaga's song Poker Face is playing when her train is seen for the first time.
  • The vessel from the 53rd Grammy Awards appear in this episode.
  • When Lady Gaga arrives in Springfield, the crowd chant to the lyrics of her song Bad Romance: "Ga-Ga-Oh-La-La!"
  • The Lady Gaga Express conductor's design and voice appear to be modeled after Cee-Lo Green.
  • The user interface on Lady Gaga's phone is based heavily on the design of Apple's iOS operating system, specifically versions 1 through 6 of iOS (this episode aired when iOS 5 was current).

Trivia[]

  • When Lady Gaga flies over the crowd with sparks shooting from the points of her cone-cupped bra, Professor Frink holds up a calculator displaying "80085", which means "BOOBS" in calculator spelling. This was previously used by Moe in "Today, I Am a Clown". He also revealed he moved to Springfield because its zip code read "BOOBS" in "Moe Letter Blues".
  • Lady Gaga wears eighteen outfits in the episode, including the meat dress, used in the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards.
  • Moe states he is a half Armenian. Another mention of Armenia by Moe appears in the episode "Judge Me Tender", Moe mistakes American Idol for Armenian Idol. This implies Moe may have originated from Armenia, as in "Much Apu About Nothing" he was revealed to be an illegal immigrant.
  • This is the second time Ned Flanders notes that he was warned that the devil would be attractive. The first was "Midnight Rx".
  • Homer admits to cheating on his diet, something that was shown in "Dial "N" for Nerder".
  • During the episode hashtags were featured in the episode. The hashtags were: #TheSimpsons #GagaExpress #GagaKissesMarge
  • The Grumple was in the audience at the Lady Gaga concert.
  • This is the third episode to finish a season and air on May 20, the other two are "Simpsons Tall Tales" and "You Kent Always Say What You Want".
  • This Is the only Episode where Bart and Lisa can be seen Kissing each other.
  • This is also the second Episode Bart can be seen kissing Lisa, the first being "Bart Sells His Soul".
  • Lisa sucks on a pacifier given to her by Maggie, noting that "it worked once". This may be a reference to The Tracey Ullman Show short "The Pacifier", in which Maggie gives Lisa as well as Bart pacifiers which end up calming them down.
  • This episode was the last one to star Tonino Accolla as the Italian voice of Homer prior to his death on July 14, 2013, caused by a long illness. Massimo Lopez had been replaced since the episode "Moonshine River".
  • This episode was severely disliked by many viewers due to Lisa's voice and having too much focus on Lady Gaga.

Goofs[]

  • In the promotional image, a part of Martin's arm is transparent and has not been colored in. However, this error wasn't present in the episode.
  • The "just stamp the ticket" man does not appear in flash mob, until he corrects them spelling "disperse."
