Janet Vivian "Jan" Hooks (April 23, 1957 - October 9, 2014) was an American actress and comedienne. She had a recurring role on The Simpsons as the original voice actor of Manjula Nahasapeemapetilon. She was best known for her work on Saturday Night Live, where she was a repertory player from 1986 to 1991 (cited by fans and critics as the show's second Golden Age, following years of shaky quality between 1980 and 1985. Coincidentally, Phil Hartman, known on The Simpsons as the voice of crooked lawyer Lionel Hutz and washed-up B-movie star Troy McClure, was part of the same SNL cast Jan Hooks was in and sadly, also died years later), and continued making cameo appearances on SNL until 1994. Hooks' notable recurring characters on SNL include Miss Connie, host of Miss Connie's Fable Nook; Candy Sweeney, a nightclub singer who performs with her sister, Liz (played by Nora Dunn), and Marge Keister, a middle-aged busybody. Her notable celebrity impressions include Tammy Faye Bakker, Bette Davis, Betty Ford, Corazon Aquino, Diane Sawyer, Greta Garbo, Donald Trump's first two wives (Ivana Trump and Marla Maples), Hillary Clinton, Kitty Dukakis, Mia Farrow, Jessica Hahn, Nancy Reagan, Diana Spencer (Princess Diana), and Sinead O'Connor. A full list can be found here.

Hooks' other popular TV roles included 3rd Rock from the Sun, Designing Women, and another Matt Groening animated show: Futurama, as the voice of Angleyne, a fembot that Bender falls for while working as a scab during a bending factory strike.

Hooks reportedly died on October 9, 2014 at the age of 57 from throat cancer. The episode "Super Franchise Me" is dedicated to her.
