Itchy & Scratchy: The Movie
Marge Gets a Job

Trivia[]

  • Lisa says that Michael Jackson and Dustin Hoffman were voice actors in The Itchy & Scratchy Movie, and that "they didn't use their real names, but you could tell it was them". This was reference to the fact that Jackson and Hoffman have contributed to Simpsons episodes under the respective pseudonyms of John Jay Smith and Sam Etic which led to a policy stating that celebrities appearing in the show must now use their real names instead of a pseudonym.
    • Ironically, unlike the banning of the episode "Stark Raving Dad" and Michael Jackson Expressway's name being blurred out in "Dog of Death" (only on TV reruns, Disney+ kept the gag in) after the release of the 2019 documentary Leaving Neverland, the Michael Jackson line was left intact on TV.
  • In the scene of forty years into the future, the picture of Bart and caption "DO NOT SELL TO THIS BOY" are still posted in the box office at the Aztec Theater.
  • This episode marks the first appearance of the Bumblebee Man.
  • Strangely, Bart never saw the movie until forty years later, meaning the movie was not released on home video, or that Bart wanted to assure his dad he would complete the punishment properly and never bought it. However, he would later watch it with his family in 3D at the drive-in movies in "Adventures in Baby-Getting".
  • This episode aired on a Tuesday, instead of a Thursday unlike the other episodes of Season 4.
  • Oddly, Ralph's parents (Sarah Wiggum and Chief Wiggum) are not seen in Lisa's classroom during the parent teacher conference. Although Chief Wiggum may have been absent due to his job as police officer. However, Chief Wiggum is seen later with Eddie and Lou when Maggie drives Homer's car for a joyride until crashing into the Springfield State Prison, leading to Bart's final punishment.
    • Interestingly one of the background characters that sits in front of Homer during this scene resembles the physical appearance of Ralph with the only difference being an older appearance, and is wearing a jacket instead of Ralph's usual blue shirt.
  • The clip of Bart and Lisa laughing would be featured on Weebo's screen in the 1997 film, Flubber.

Citations[]

  • Steamboat Itchy (the first I&S cartoon) is a parody of the first Mickey Mouse cartoon with sound, Steamboat Willie.
  • In a flashback, young Homer is heard singing "Yummy Yummy Yummy" by The Ohio Express. This song is later featured toward the end of the first act in "The Heartbroke Kid", which plays as Bart eats a lot of candy from the vending machines.
  • The 50-year old Bart Simpson; Chief Justice of The Supreme Court, and the 76-year old Homer Simpson; senior citizen coming into the theater sitting down in the shadows for the movie to begin is an homage to Mystery Science Theater 3000 as Mike Reiss has mentioned on the DVD audio commentary.

Goofs[]

    Itchy's miscolored ear

When Homer and Marge come home from the conference, they are not seen through the window of the house's door.
  • Abraham Simpson can be seen in the long line waiting for the movie, despite the fact that in a few episodes later, it's revealed that he doesn't know what Itchy and Scratchy is and when he finally finds out, he hates it for being disgusting and violent. It is possible though, that he may just have been there playing chess, or he did see the movie but forgot about it later.
    • Also, Ned Flanders and his kids are also in line for The Itchy and Scratchy Movie, despite the fact that "Homer Loves Flanders" reveals that they only watch religious cartoons because every other channel on the family's satellite system is locked out and "Home Sweet Homediddily-Dum-Doodily" shows that the Flanderses don't watch TV that much (cf. Flanders blowing dust off the remote control before using it) and the one time the kids do watch Itchy and Scratchy, Rod is traumatized over the blood and Todd thinks it's a good idea to stab Rod with a broken bottle.
  • As Marge walks in to see Bart pulling up the carpet, Homer's beard is yellow.
  • Why didn't Bart just try going to other movie theaters if the 1 he was at didn't allow him under the orders of his dad Homer? It's possible that that movie theater was the only 1 in Springfield, or other movie theaters just were not giving out the movie.
  • When Itchy initially gets the train engineer job, his left ear repeatedly changes color to the same shade of blue as the stripes on his engineer hat.
  • At the start of the episode, an announcer says that the movie is "coming for Christmas", but this episode is not set in the Christmas season at all.
