TriviaEdit

  • The undercover news van has "ORDINARY VAN" written on it in huge letters.
  • A sign in the world's first convenience store reads: The Master Knows All Except Combination To Safe.
  • The slogan of the Monstromart: Where Shopping Is A Baffling Ordeal.
  • The license plate of the ambulamce reads: SLIP
  • This episode was nominated for the 1994 Emmy Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Music and Lyrics for the song, "Who Needs The Kwik-E-Mart?".
  • Clear back in the Season 1 DVD commentary, we learn that Apu's last name "Nahasapeemapetilon" was the full name of a high school friend of writer Jeff Martin.
  • At one point in the Monstromart scene, Barney accidentally knocks over an overgrown Mrs. Maple syrup bottle, mistaking it for an actual lady, and reacts with horror at apparently killing her, claiming that it's all happening again. This was presumably a reference to Rosebud, where Barney accidentally shot and killed a woman walking by Evergreen Terrace after Homer slammed a door in his face (having attempted to threaten Homer to give back the bear due to Mr. Burns' rediverting beer from Springfield in order to get back Bobo), and was implied to be arrested.
  • This is one of the very few episodes where Apu wears his Kwik-E-Mart uniform in the store instead of his usual attire.
  • The Kwik-E-Mart is opened for 24 hours every day.
  • The Kwik-E-Mart is seen from 742 Evergreen Terrace, but only in this episode.
  • The music playing in background when Homer and Apu travel through the desert and to the mountain is from the movie Lawrence of Arabia (1962).

GoofsEdit

  • The Kwik-E-Mart shouldn't have a "Do Not Accept Checks From These People" list, as they already have a policy against paying with checks, credit cards, and food stamps. They may have accepted checks early on and stopped taking them at some point, and just forgotten to take the "bad check" sign down.
