Trivia[]

  • This short is the first televised appearance of the Simpsons family.
  • Along with "Bathtime" and partially "The Perfect Crime" and "World War III", this short appeared in "The Simpsons 138th Episode Spectacular".
  • It was also released as a bonus feature on the Season 1 DVD Box Set.
  • This short appeared before the couch gag in "Looking for Mr. Goodbart" to celebrate 30 years of the Simpsons' televised debut, but only featured the scene with Marge singing "Rock-a-bye baby" to Maggie.
  • Homer's voice is noticeably far different than how it is now. This is due to the fact that when Dan Castellaneta (Homer's voice actor) first got the role as Homer, he originally used an impression based on a well known actor named Walter Matthau. However, Dan discontinued this during Season 1's production because of difficulties on the throat doing the voice for long periods of time, hence why Homer sounds they way he does today (Fairly high and robust).
  • Lisa is the only character in the short whose name is revealed.
  • Marge sleeps on the left side of the bed and Homer on the right side. This is reversed in the series.
  • The design of the bedrooms is notably more basic than the half hour series design.
  • Door frames are rectangular in the short although other shorts and the half hour series have them in a semi circle design.
  • This is one of the few shorts where Maggie speaks. Other shorts that has Maggie communicate thoughts include Making Faces and House of Cards, though in those shorts, she mutters her dialogue.
  • This is the only short where Bart is the smart one and Lisa is the rebel. After this short, their personalities are reversed.
  • The close-up scene of Homer's face is reused in Eating Dinner 6 shorts later.
  • Homer is the first character to speak in this short, making him the first character to speak in the entire franchise and series.
    • Additionally, He & Bart are the first characters to appear in this short, thus making them the first characters to ever appear in the franchise as well.
