Cultural references[]

  • The title references to the 1998 detective novel Gone, Baby, Gone and the film adaptation of the same name.
    • This episode is also the second title that makes a reference to this novel and movie; the other is "Gone Maggie Gone."
  • The chalkboard gag is a reference to Karl Rove's on-air meltdown on the night of the 2012 U.S. presidental election, in which he refused to concede that Barack Obama won Ohio when Fox News called it.
  • The couch gag is based on Hanna Barbera's Wacky Races.
  • The sound effect that plays when Bart is playing online poker is from the video game Donkey Kong.
  • As the young Homer and Abe enter the airport bar, music similar to Where Everybody Knows Your Name (the theme song of Cheers) can be heard. The song was also inspiration for the song Flaming Moe's.
  • In the closeup of the November 17 calendar block, a sticker underneath reads "Blue Moon" which is a reference to the phrase 'once in a blue moon', which means 'very infrequently'.
  • The title of the book Homer reads in Abe' room, The Wander Years: A Guide to Finding the Walking Dad is a mix of The Wonder Years and The Walking Dead.
  • Chucky from Child's Play appears on the Jennifer Tilly poker tutorial video Lisa was watching. Tilly appeared in the films Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky.

  • Maggie does not physically appear in this episode but is seen in the family portrait above the fireplace.
  • This is the second episode where a character draws on another with a pen who finds it painful. The first was "Treehouse of Horror XV".
  • This is the second episode where Homer eats an object that just burned him. The first was "The Wife Aquatic".
  • This is the second episode where a Simpson develops a gambling addiction. The first was "$pringfield (Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Legalized Gambling)".
  • This episode takes place on Saturday, November 17 and Sunday, November 18, 2012. The days of the week on the calendar match that of November 2012.
  • Abe is 35 years old in the beginning of the episode's flashback. Apparently, Homer was also 6 years old at the time. This indicates the events took place 33 years earlier, making Abe currently 68.
  • The Gracie Films jingle plays in a Peanuts-style theme, which is the same as heard in "Treehouse of Horror XIX".

Goofs[]

  • At the beginning, when the Simpsons are coming to sit to their sofa they are in their trademark outfits. But in a split second, their trademark outfits become racing outfits.
  • It would be illegal for the bartender to give a beer to Homer when he was six years old.
  • At Gulp 'n' Blow a Laughy Meal box is seen, however Laughy Meals are a Krusty Burger menu item.
