Buying the Complete Series

Does anybody know where to buy the Complete Series ? 1 - 24 .. is it available as a box set or bluray? -PurgGeneral 14:35, October 7, 2013‎ (UTC)

Fox hasn't released a box set and I have a feeling they never will. They do not release DVDs of each season until nine years after that season ends. They released Season 15 last December and they will have Season 16 available this December.
The delay in releasing a season probably has something to do with whatever contracts are in effect because the rest of the TV and movie industry is a lot better about getting a TV show season or a movie out on home video within a few months after it ends or leaves the theaters. In addition, shows are now available on iTunes, Amazon and other locations pretty quickly after each episode premieres.
Here's what's available so far:
  • Seasons 1-16, 20 on DVD
  • Seasons 15, 16, 20 on Blu-Ray
  • Seasons 1, 2, 3, 20-25 on iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, etc.
  • various themed collections of episodes on DVD, iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, etc.
  • The Simpsons Movie on DVD, iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, etc.
  • The Longest Daycare on iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, etc.
Fox really needs to catch up fast and start selling seasons 17-19 and 21-24 on DVD now. Season 26 was just confirmed, so if they stick to their release schedule, it will be the year 2024 before we get Season 26 on DVD. The industry is transitioning to having content online instead of making a physical release like a DVD or Blu-Ray disc, so by the time Fox would get around to releasing a box set, it might be a case of nobody sells box sets on physical discs any more. I prefer a physical product that I can buy because I have seen too many instances where online content is no longer available because a company thinks people don't want it any more.
Regarding Blu-Ray releases, it really only makes sense to buy Season 20 and beyond in that format since the show switched to HD resolution in Season 20. I haven't seen anything that says the episodes from Season 15 and 16 were re-scanned at a higher resolution than what was originally broadcast. You might as well just buy the DVD version. Otherwise, you would be watching 640x480 resolution episodes scaled up on your Blu-Ray disc. —RRabbit42 (leave a message) 15:41, October 12, 2013 (UTC)
