Brian McClure

Brian McClure thinks he can come back onto this wiki and do what he pleases. I have tried telling him not to do these things but he goes against my wishes, and the wishes of the community, and does them anyway. Therefore, I propose that we remove his bureaucrat status and admin status. He has done nothing but cause trouble since his return and I have received a complaint about him. Tell me if you think we should. User:Solar Dragon/Signature 17:48, June 20, 2010 (UTC)

That's not true, I've done quite a bit here, including creating templates, managing vandalism, minor rewrites and other cleanups. I admit, I'm an A-type personality, but I believe in honesty, which is why I said what I did about the current admin candidates. I was just giving my own opinion, and others didn't agree with my opinion, so they complained about it. I haven't done anything to actually harm the site, so I think Solar Dragon is over-reacting. -- Brian McClure 18:24, June 20, 2010 (UTC)

OK. I am telling users this. You can decide who is in the wrong. Me or Brian. Please see my blog, User blog:Solar Dragon/Every Wiki has two members who can not get along. If you feel I am in the wrong, I will request to have my bureaucrat powers removed and will go down to being an admin, or even have all powers removed, become a normal user and eventually will get bored and quit. However, if you think Brian is in the wrong, he can decide whether he wants so stay or not. If he stays, I will go down the same path as I mentioned, remove my powers and quit. User:Solar Dragon/Signature 18:29, June 20, 2010 (UTC)

I have just had an email from a user saying that Brian should have his rights removed. I will not disclose the user's name as the user doesn't want their name released.

Hi, I'm sending you an email, as I don't want to get on the wrong side of Brian
McClure, hope you don't mind. Regarding your forum and his edits, I agree with
you and think his user rights should be removed. Its all well and good for him
to re-join and take an interest in the wiki again, but to start making edits
like he has been doing recently, I think we should draw the line. We'll see what
the wiki community has to say. But maybe we should unblock him so he can
apologize or make his point, prehaps? Thanks for that, Solar! :)

User:Solar Dragon/Signature 18:32, June 20, 2010 (UTC)

This is ridiculous. You're trying to get the entire site engaged in a silly war because of what... Because I deleted a few pages? Because I was honest to some users? If you want to leave, then go. You're a poor writer, you don't know what you're doing, and you think edit count is more important than edit quality. And now you're threatening to leave so you can get your own way. That's pretty pathetic, but sadly it will work because most of the users here seem to be sheep. -- Brian McClure 18:36, June 20, 2010 (UTC)

OK, OK, OK. Enough is enough. There is no need to start being rude, Brian McClure, is there? Solar is trying to make a point (and is doing it in a civilised manner) and is asking the community who is right and who is wrong. I have nothing against either party. But I think someone should step in and tell them that being rude and calling other editors sheep and pathetic, is a little over the top. I don't really want to get involved. But I thought I'd better say something, just to let you know where I stand.    Effluvium    talk    contributions    email   18:40, June 20, 2010 (UTC)
So, now you are insulting the other users then. No one has been more dedicated to building this wiki up than me. I have made so many edits to this wiki and improved it so much. I have come up with lots of great ideas to help build it up. You have been out of the picture for a while. You were around when the wiki was smaller, worse and with fewer editors. I have helped build and bring the community together. User:Solar Dragon/Signature 18:41, June 20, 2010 (UTC)
I have no problem with the editors here, or even Solar Dragon the editor. My problem is with the way he's doing this. Rather than let users make up their own mind, he's threatening to leave, thus meaning a user is either with him or against him. And, since he's been here longer than I, it's going to work, and he knows it. That's what's pathetic. Rather than just editing, he's putting the site through this nonsense. -- Brian McClure 18:45, June 20, 2010 (UTC)

I have removed both our admin powers until this is settled. I can do nothing about the crat powers though. User:Solar Dragon/Signature 18:47, June 20, 2010 (UTC)

And, I will no longer check upon this until this issue has been resolved. Contact me once it is over. User:Solar Dragon/Signature 18:55, June 20, 2010 (UTC)

McClure, I respect your accomplishments, but to be frank, your people skills suck. Brian, consider how you come across to someone who's just arrived on the site who doesn't know anything about you, or your history with this wiki: You basically come out of nowhere, make a bunch of changes (a number of them really good ones, true), then start swinging your authority around like Teddy Roosevelt's big stick. What do you suppose people will think, especially people who have arrived on the wiki since the last time you were active? And then you're surprised when you hack people off? That makes you look clueless as well as insensitive. And while I'm at it I might as well throw "hypocritical" into the mix: Your biggest criticism of Effluvium's Admin nomination is that you're concerned he'll work like crazy for a few months, then leave. Well, your own contribution history shows a pattern of the exact same thing! Are you familiar with the expression "the pot calling the kettle black"? If you say in your defense that your long absences are explained by real life intruding once in a while, okay -- but don't you think you should grant others the same consideration?

All that said, however, my vote is that you should stay on with all powers intact IF you show you can do a better job of showing people some respect. Thus far, I'm not seeing it. But for whatever it's worth -- two cents or less, I'm sure :-) -- I think you deserve a chance. -- Mythigator 19:31, June 20, 2010 (UTC)

It appears as if he has decided to leave though. talk:Brian_McClure#.22Oh_we_have_to_let_the_community_decide.22. Nothing has came out of this at all. I am not happy with what I have done either. We both made mistakes. We were both as bad as each other. Brian, if you read this, please accept my apologies. I have calmed down now. I am not happy with what I have said. It was a heat of the moment thing. I hope you will reconsider. User:Solar Dragon/Signature 19:37, June 20, 2010 (UTC)

Your Being Idiots Kingcjc 19:49, June 20, 2010 (UTC)

Mythigator summed it up perfectly. A wiki is all about a community of editors working together to create a wiki about what they love. And as I believe I've said before, this wiki's crowning glory is its community. Lets not ruin that now.    Effluvium    talk    contributions    email   19:53, June 20, 2010 (UTC)

You block over arguments? really? Kingcjc 19:59, June 20, 2010 (UTC)

I blocked him as he kept reverting my reverts. I asked him not to as we agreed as a community to separate those pages in splitting up article about two people. Looks like he's a goner now though, although I am slightly sorry about my attitude towards him and should have tried to handle it in a better way. User:Solar Dragon/Signature 20:05, June 20, 2010 (UTC)
What? What? Hey! Solar Dragon, Brian, what happened? I disconnected to take a break and in five hours you two started an argument that led to Brian's block?! What happened? CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT'S HAPPENING HERE? OK, I calm down. But seriously, why did you two get so angry? — TheHomer (TalkContributions) 20:43, June 20, 2010 (UTC)
It started with a bit of edit warring. He is unblocked now though, he is an admin and I gave him permission to unblock himself as I didn't want to do it at the time. This is over now and we have put aside our differences and I have warned him to talk to the community before doing anything like that again to make sure it is OK to do so. User:Solar Dragon/Signature 20:48, June 20, 2010 (UTC)
Wow, big - or - interesting... big AND interesting things have happened in just FIVE hours (or approximately). I read Brian's talk page, yours and the forum and I have to say you two really got angry. But as you say, everything is alright now... and if you blocked him, how could he edit his talk page? — TheHomer (TalkContributions) 20:55, June 20, 2010 (UTC)
I allow blocked people to edit their own talk page, it is one of the options that is automatically ticked. It is mainly so that they can argue their case about being blocked and I will listen to it. But, yeah. It is all resolved now and the wiki is back on track already. User:Solar Dragon/Signature 21:31, June 20, 2010 (UTC)
Wow, so much happened while I went and watched the football for 2hrs --Smiley12 06:26, June 21, 2010 (UTC)
It appears to me that even thinking of removing admin flags from Brian or blocking him is an overreaction and not something logical to do. Good thing that it's settled, but the creation of this forum itself was an overreaction — users should always try to work it out before going in front of the community, that's called maturity, and that wasn't really tried in this case. Regardless, I'm glad it's settled and I just wanted to add in my two-cents. Joey - Talk Contribs 16:59, June 27, 2010 (UTC)
