This is an image from an episode of the Simpsons where they get a pet skunk called sally which obviously shows that it is a female. She goes around spraying everyone. However in real life this wouldn't happen. Female skunks don't have stink glands so therefore they can't spray. Males on the other hand do. During mating season it is the females who fight and not the males. The female that loses gets sprayed by the male which often leads to death for the female. This is because the female is lacking oxygen after her fight with the other female and is running out of breath. The males spray replaces all the nearby oxygen with skunk gas so the losing female gets gassed. This is sometimes the case for the winner as well. During mating, if the male isn't aroused, he will spray the female who will also be gassed to death due to the lack of oxygen. She lacks oxygen because of having sex which uses up her energy and breath, so she dies. Meanwhile the male walks off fine to mate again.
