Dennis Franz (born October 28, 1944) is an American actor who is well known for his roles playing police officers in television shows. Franz is best known for his role as Detective Andy Sipowicz on NYPD Blue, for which he won four Emmy Awards.

Previously, Franz appeared on Hill Street Blues where he played two different characters. During the show's third season, he played Officer Sal Benedetto, a corrupt cop who killed himself in the season's final episode. Franz was so popular with fans that he was brought back in the show's sixth season as Lt. Norm Buntz, remaining until the end of the show.

Franz is also a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces. After he graduated from college, Franz was drafted into the United States Army and served for eleven months in Vietnam.

On The Simpsons, Franz guest-starred as himself in the episode "Homer Badman", playing the role of Homer Simpson in a made-for-TV movie.
