Do the Bartman is a single from The Simpsons Sing the Blues, which features Bart Simpson singing Do the Bartman. (This is not to be confused with the superhero of the same name.) The song was written by Bryan Loren. It was originally rumored that R&B and pop icon Michael Jackson, who later guest-starred on the episode "Stark Raving Dad" as Leon Kompowsky, was heavily involved with the song. While the producers initially denied it. It was later revealed by creator Matt Groening that Jackson did in fact co-write and co-produce Do The Bartman, Still, Loren alleged that was the sole writer of the song, while Jackson provided backup vocals, the title and requested that he be mentioned in the song, and that this was what led to his guest appearance in "Stark Raving Dad". The song was later used on a Latin American Simpsons commercial for Pepsi & 7-up, but the music has different instruments and it's high-pitched. The commercial can be found here. The song is also sung in "Simpson Tide".

Goofs

• Milhouse has black hair in the music video. This was early in the show's run when Milhouse occasionally had black hair as the artists had not settled.

• You only see Jessica Lovejoy who tries to look like Sherri and Terri.
• When Bart is beginning to go onto the center of the stage, there is a version of Sherri or Terri with yellow skin.
• Lou is shown to be white instead of black.
• At the beginning of the video, Skinner is shown to be taller than Mrs Krabappel. However, in a later scene, where the two of them are seen participating in a conga line dance, Mrs Krabappel (who isn't wearing heels) is clearly taller than Skinner.

The video begins with the rest of the Simpson family arriving at Springfield elementary to attend school dance recital which Bart is in. dissatisfied with the solemn, scratchy jazz-like record the other kids are slowly dancing to, Bart opts rebelling against authority when he decides to put his own spin on a rigidly choreographed dance presentation at Springfield Elementary School after plug his cassette walkman into the sound system. This soon results in him taking his song and dance outside the school and to other locations in Springfield, to which numerous residents join in. At end, however, this appears to have been a daydream, as he is once again back at the school dance recital.

Trivia

• The song's music video would first air on Fox after the premiere of "Bart the Daredevil" and then MTV. In addition to MTV, the music video was somehow also able to air on the Disney Channel in September 1991 after a Darkwing Duck episode. The success of Do The Bartman may have inspired the kid-oriented Darkwing Duck Rap music video.
• A more tame, family-friendly dance with no swearing and less provocative words called "Do The Mario" would air at the end of The Super Mario Brothers Super Show, which was cancelled after one season in 1989. "Do The Mario" was perhaps a popular culture target of "Do The Bartman", as "Do The Mario" would never be used again for successor Mario Bros. shows The Adventures Of Super Mario Bros. 3, which first aired as "Do The Bartman" was being produced, and Super Mario World: The Animated Series.
• The clips of this music video was later used on an Ten Network Promo from 1991 as part of their 'The Entertainment Network' branding.
• The salute which Bart gives as he starts performing his song is none other than the raised fist salute which was long been affiliated with numerous groups rebelling against authority, including the Black Power Movement.
• Reverend Lovejoy is seen dancing alongside Satan when Bart's song is taken to Springfield Square. As the sun was setting at the time, this may have a reference to lead Michael Jackson rival Prince's use of the line from the 1989 Batman film "you ever danced the devil in the pale moonlight" in his song Batdance; Prince would provide the film's soundtrack. The film's antagonist Joker, who said the line first, was portrayed by acclaimed Hollywood actor Jack Nicholson, who Simpsons co-producer James L. Brooks had developed a good relationship with since Nicholson had a major role in Brooks' 1983 Oscar-winning film Terms of Endearment. The year after the song was released, Bart would begin using the name Bartman again, this time on a more regular basis in the form of a longstanding comic book parody of Batman. In addition , the decision to feature Lovejoy and Devil as dancing partners may have been a reference to potential Rev. Lovejoy inspiration Billy Graham growing relationship with then-Catholic Church leader Pope John Paul II. In Graham's Protestant faith. the papacy has for centuries been regarded as the AntiChrist.
