Cultural References

  • The title is a reference to the German film Fitzcarraldo.
  • Bart's chalkboard gag is a reference to Atlanta losing the 2017 Superbowl. It is also a reference to how many people say that The Simpsons is good at predicting things, for example, them predicting that Trump would become president in Bart to the Future.
  • When Homer imagined his family as food, he imagined Bart as a Butterfinger bar. This is a reference to how Bart used to be star in Butterfinger commercials.
  • Homer quotes Han Solo's line from Star Wars: The Force Awakens about finding the Millenium Falcon again.
  • The music that plays when Homer begins remembering the chili dogs is "Flower Duet" from either the opera Lakmé or Madama Butterfly.
  • At the end of the episode, the theme from the movie Chinatown plays.

Trivia

  • This episode was dedicated to Sooan Kim, a former Simpsons character layout artist and lead character layout artist, who passed away on January 20th, four weeks before this episode aired. A drawing of him, along with the words "IN LOVING MEMORY SIMPSONS ANIMATOR SOOAN KIM", was shown at the end of the episode.

Goofs

  • For some reason, on Hulu, when Skinner tells parents to pick up kids in South Springfield, the subtitles say Chinatown instead of South Springfield.
  • When Krusty shows off his new menu items, he butchers the pronunciation of banh mi and pho.
  • Homer and Deuce both thought they were the same age, but both of them remember Homer as a child while Deuce was an adult.
