  • Dogtown is the name of many places, movies, songs and a TV program.

Trivia

  • This is the second episode in a row to start immediately with the couch gag. However, unlike Moho House, after the TV credits, the opening sequence (with a slightly different arrangement of the theme) is shown, starting from the title screen gag, but after Bart bounces on Barney, it cuts to Homer driving home from work (skipping the following scenes: Homer at the power plant, Marge and Maggie at the supermarket, and Lisa's sax solo). When Homer driving home from work is shown, instead of throwing the rod to Otto, he gets stuck in traffic and opens up the EZcape app to help him get through, thus starting the episode.
  • This is the first episode of the series to start in the middle of the opening sequence (in this case, this episode begins with Homer getting stuck in traffic instead of Homer driving to the Simpson house from the power plant).
  • Although Taquito appeared in a couple of earlier episodes prior to this episode (Bart's Comet, Radioactive Man, and 22 Short Films About Springfield), this episode reveals his name, and acted as a major character rather than a brief minor character.
  • Mayor Quimby breaks the fourth wall by joking about what state Springfield is in; after Quimby finds out about their current position on dogs, he says that Springfield will be known as the dog-loving capital of the world from that point forth, and that it will put Springfield on the map. His assistant asks why they are not on the map, but instead of revealing the answer, Quimby says that he doesn't know, because he made twenty calls to Rand McNally, and they don't even realize what state Springfield is in as well.
  • The song "You're My Best Friend" by Queen plays at the end of this episode when the homeless man, Rainier Wolfcastle, the elderly, Bart and Lisa reunite with their dogs. This song was first played in Moe Baby Blues when Moe was spending time with Maggie and during the slideshow of Homer and his ham.
