Trivia[]
- This episode aired on St. Patrick's Day despite actually taking place on Easter, which, in 2013, took place exactly two weeks later. The title screen gag references this with a leprechaun (St. Patrick's Day) and a bunny (Easter) getting into a fight.
- The title of this episode is a reference to the Batman film, The Dark Night, and the NBC sitcom, Night Court.
- The Dependables are a spoof of various Marvel and DC superheroes:
- Fruit Bat Man (Mr. Burns) is a spoof of Batman
- The Rambler (Grampa) is a spoof of Superman.
- Early Bird (Jasper) is a spoof of Hawkman.
- Hot Flash (Mrs. Glick) is a spoof of the Flash.
- Iron Lung (Hans Moleman) is a spoof of Iron Man.
- This episode was dedicated to Robert Reno, Janet Reno's brother.

Continuity[]
- Moe Szyslak recalls Bart prank calling him asking for "Mike Rotch", in "Blood Feud". Notably, this is the first time Moe is actually shown to be aware that Bart is behind the prank calls.
- This is the second time Bart is falsely accused of a prank that Groundskeeper Willie is responsible for. The first was in "The Father, the Son and the Holy Guest Star".
- However, Willie was never found out to be the culprit within that episode.
- Homer mentions having been a defendant (seen in multiple episodes) and a juror (seen in "The Boy Who Knew Too Much").
- Matt Groening appears for the third time in the series, in a silent cameo. Here, he is a courtroom artist who draws the Tracey Ullman version of Bart.
- Groening was previously a courtroom artist in "The Boy Who Knew Too Much".
- Lisa tells Bart that he has ruined Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. This calls back to Bart ruining Thanksgiving in the episode, "Bart vs. Thanksgiving" and Christmas in the episode, "Miracle on Evergreen Terrace".
- However, there has been no canonical episode in which he ruins a Halloween celebration (Not even in the THOH series).
- Bart just only ruined two Holidays by mistake.
