Cultural References[]

  • The title of the episode refers to an earlier Simpsons episode: "Bart Gets an "F"". This title would be later reused for other episodes such as "Bart Gets a "Z"".
  • The first-person sequences with echo-like whispers is a reference to the Friday the 13th series.
  • When Marge and Lisa touch their fingers together, it is a reference to E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, and the theme to the movie plays in the background as well.

Trivia/Goofs[]

  • When Santa's Little Helper is chewing on the remote changing the channels, Kent Brockman is shown talking about a woman hunt is out with a picture of Lucille Botzcowski, showing that she is still on the run after "Some Enchanted Evening".
  • Another clip during Santa's Little Helper's channel-surfing shows Troy McClure hosting "I Can't Believe They Invented It!", voiced by Dan Castellaneta instead of his regular voice actor, Phil Hartman.
  • Yet another channel is showing the same Duff Beer commercial as the one seen in "Homer's Odyssey".
  • This is the first time Santa's Little Helper eats a bug, the second being "American History X-cellent".
  • Lisa wears her teal nightgown instead of her usual red dress throughout the episode (due to staying home from school because of the mumps).
  • Dr. Hibbert’s children were seen in this episode.
  • The Family Quilt depicts certain events from history:
    • King Tobacco - the discovery of Tobacco
    • A woman hunting a Bison - the Oregon Trail
    • A soldier getting shot - Spanish Civil War
    • A line graph going down with the year 1929 - the 1929 stock market crash which led to the Great Depression.
  • In the end, it says that Santa's Little Helper bit Bart but Homer didn't mind. This incident actually happens in the episode "Stop or My Dog Will Shoot!" and they make a huge deal about it.

  • Santa’s Little Helper eats a macadamia cookie, even though macadamia nuts are bad for dogs.
