Alvarine Gurney (née Bisque) was the mother of Jacqueline Bouvier and Gladys Gurney and the maternal grandmother of Selma, Patty and Marge Bouvier. She did not smoke, resembled Patty and disapproved of Jacqueline and Marge's choices of husbands. Even though she did not smoke, she has the most raspy voice of all the girls in her family. She was almost blind which may have had led to Marge's fear of flying. In Homer's Phobia it's revealed that she had a secret drinking problem when the family found out that her civil war toy was actually a liquor bottle from the 70's.
