Cultural references
- The title of the episode is a reference to Gilbert O'Sullivan's hit song Alone Again (Naturally). It was also parodied in the episode "No Loan Again, Naturally".
- Words Ned spells out while playing Scrabble by himself: Solitary, Alone, Forever, Horny, and Flanswered.
- The video game Billy Graham's Bible Blaster, played by Bart with Rod and Todd Flanders, is a spoof of the unlicensed NES game, Bible Adventures.
- The background music during Flanders' dating tape is I'm Too Sexy by Right Said Fred.
- Kovenant's name is based on the German thrash metal band Kreator.
- The shape of Maude's body on her half of the bed is a reference to Norma Bates (Norman Bates's mother) from Psycho.

- Gravestones appear at the cemetery during Maude's funeral of deceased people who died earlier in the series (however, Dr. Marvin Monroe would later be seen alive in the season 15 episode "Diatribe of a Mad Housewife").

Goofs
- In the opening scene, Maggie is not wearing her bow at first, but then it appears.
- Homer makes the dating video and changes scenes with star wipes, but in the actual movie there are no starwipes. He may have edited and changed it after that scene.
- Ned and Edna date again in the season 22 finale, "The Ned-liest Catch", though Ned states in the episode that he has never met Edna before.
- Moe claims Ned has a "fear of drinking", but Ned has his private bar.
- Ned punches Moe, even though violence is a sin.
- The woman in the picture in Ned's bedroom is clearly not Maude. It could be a relative of Ned
